Ruth Weisberg

Ruth WeisbergRuth Weisberg is an accomplished artist and exhibitor as well as Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Professor of drawing and painting at USC.

She works primarily in painting, drawing and large-scale installations. Her recent honors include Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, Hebrew Union College, 2001, College Art Association Distringuished Teaching of Art Award 1999, Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome 1995, 1994, and 1992, National Endowment for the Humanities Seminar 1994, a Senior Research Fulbright for Italy in 1992. She was also president of the College Art Association 1990-92.

As an artist, Weisberg has been a particularly active exhibitor with over 70 solo and 160 group exhibitions. In the past year she has received two major commissions, one from the Central Conference of American Rabbis and another from the City of Los Angeles Percent for the Arts program sited at MiniMed Corporation. Weisberg’s work is included in fifty major Museum and University collections including the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Fine Arts Museum, San Francisco, California, The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illionois, The Biblioteque Nationale of France, Paris, France, Instituto Nationale per la Grafica, Rome, Italy, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, California, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York, The National Gallery, Washington, D.C. and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, New York. She was also recently featured in Barbara Isenberg’s book, State of the Arts, Harper Collins, 2000.
