Lori Meeks

Lori MeeksLori Meeks is an Assistant Professor of Religion and East Asian Languages and Cultures at USC’s School of Religion. Her research is centered on the social and cultural history of Buddhism in Japanese history. Specifically her work has shed light on the ways in which gender is handled in Buddhist texts, on the roles that Buddhist texts played in the dissemination of gendered ideology, and on popular responses to doctrinal discussions of sex and gender. She holds degrees in religion from Columbia University and Princeton University.
